After all, one can't complain: A.A. Milne's beloved Winnie the Pooh characters entered the public domain this year and have consequently been given a slasher makeover in Rhys Waterfield's forthcoming horror film Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, which just got its certifiably bothersome first trailer.

Set for wide release later this year, the movie follows the events of Christopher Robin (Nikolai Leon) returning to the Hundred Acre Woods after college. When he grew up and got a life, he abandoned his childhood pals Pooh (Craig David Dowsett) and Piglet (Chris Cordell) — and they don't seem to have taken it well. As the yellow teddy famously said: "A day without a friend is like a pot without a single drop of honey left inside." At this point, he's pretty hungry.

Having become wild and deranged in Robin's absence, the cute-and-cuddly duo take new form as a ferocious bear and feral hog, respectively, stalking the humans near their home as prey. The human no-longer-child's return appears to prompt a particularly frightful — we're taking Heffalumps and Woozles-level — rampage, where Pooh and Piglet go after not only their frenemy ("We used to be friends, why are you doing this to me? I never would have left, I swear!"), but a group of unsuspecting young women who appear to have rented an ill-fated Airbnb in the English countryside. Oh, bother.

To avoid copyright disputes with Disney, Waterfield altered certain characteristic elements, omitting characters like Tigger who are still under copyright and swapping out Pooh's signature red crop top for a plaid shirt.
