Winnie the Pooh entered public domain in 2022, so naturally, the lovable cartoon character is ripe for some creative reimaginings, including a sick and twisted new version of the honey-huffing yellow bear courtesy of director Rhys Waterfield and his forthcoming slasher movie, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey.

The film, which wrapped this month, is previewed today by some pretty spooky stills, as well as a tagline that describes Blood and Honey as a "horror retelling of the famous legend of Winnie the Pooh" that takes place after Christopher Robin heads to college, abandoning Pooh and Piglet.

"Because they've had to fend for themselves so much, they've essentially become feral," Waterfield told Variety. "So they've gone back to their animal roots. They're no longer tame: they're like a vicious bear and pig who want to go around and try and find prey."

So far, the film hasn't set a firm release date, though things are moving quickly due to the viral nature of its announcement.

"Because of all the press and stuff, we're just going to start expediting the edit and getting it through post-production as fast as we can," Waterfield said. "But also, making sure it's still good. It's gonna be a high priority."
