Tom Hanks Says He's Only Made Four "Pretty Good" Movies

Well, there are four 'Toy Story' movies...

Tom Hanks has an acting career that stretches back more than 40 years and includes dozens of films — but, if you ask him, he's only made four "pretty good" movies.

Speaking with People about his upcoming debut novel The Making of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpiece, Hanks said, "No one knows how a movie is made — though everyone thinks they do. I've made a ton of movies (and four of them are pretty good, I think) and I'm still amazed at how films come together. From a flicker of an idea to the flickering image onscreen, the whole process is a miracle."

Four! We assume, naturally, that he's referring to the four Toy Story movies. But that means no Big, Forrest Gump, Philadelphia, That Thing You Do!, Castaway, Apollo 13, Saving Private Ryan, A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood, A League of Their Own or Catch Me If You Can. Sleepless in Seattle seemed good at the time, but it's pretty weird in hindsight. You've Got Mail might hold up a little better, though!

Unfortunately, Carly Rae Jepsen's video for "I Really Like You" doesn't qualify as a film, because Hanks's performance is magnificent.

His novel The Making of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpiece comes out May 9, 2023. It's about the making of a superhero blockbuster, so maybe it can redeem all the bad movies he thinks he's made?
