With the Toronto International Film Festival in full effect this week, organizers have just reported one confirmed case of COVID-19 from an individual who attended press screenings at Scotiabank Theatre.
TIFF's customer relations team confirmed the case, but was not clear about how many and which screenings the audience member attended, as The Canadian Press reports.
Several attendees have since posted heath advisory warning emails they received from the festival on Twitter, with notices for screenings of Dune, The Humans and Bergman Island at Scotiabank beginning last week.
In August, TIFF announced its stringent COVID policy, which included mandates for vaccination, testing and masks. The framework for TIFF's in-person events was developed under the guidance of municipal and provincial medical direction.
Despite the safety measures in place, it appears a case was able to breakthrough. However, the festival considers the case to be "low risk."
"Medcan, TIFF's COVID health and safety consultants, have advised that because of the strictly enforced COVID protocols in place at all TIFF venues, this case is considered low risk," reads a statement from the festival.
