After writers of 2009's Zombieland teased the possibility of a sequel earlier this year, director Ruben Fleischer has confirmed that production on the film will begin early next year.

Speaking with FandangoFleischer was "thrilled" to reveal that shooting will begin at the top of 2019, nearly a decade removed from the original's release.

"We're already actually starting Zombieland. I've been scouting and storyboarding and getting it going, and to get to work with that cast again is just an absolute dream come true," he told the site.

"It's been really exciting starting to think about that movie, and to get to work with Emma, Jesse, Woody and Abigail once again is truly a dream come true. Yeah, we're just at the very early stages, but we have an amazing script, and we're going to start shooting in Georgia in January."

Fleischer's answer also confirms that stars Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin will all reprise their roles in the sequel film.

While no release date has been set for the Zombieland sequel, writer Paul Wernick previously told Vulture that they are working to get the film in theatres in time to mark the original's 10-year anniversary.

Fleischer also spoke at length about his forthcoming Venom film for Marvel. You can read the entire interview here.
