Seth Rogen's newest comedy film, An American Pickle, has been acquired by HBO Max from Sony Pictures.
While the film has no firm release date, The Hollywood Reporter expects it to arrive sometime this summer after HBO Max launches on May 27.
UPDATE (5/13, 11:41 a.m. ET): According to Variety, An American Pickle will premiere during HBO Max's "second wave" of original programming on August 6.
"HBO Max is in the market for motion pictures that stand out," said HBO Max CCO Kevin Reilly in a statement. "And An American Pickle does stand out, with Seth in this wonderfully original, funny and heartfelt film that we look forward to debuting this summer."
The film follows Rogen's two lead characters, Herschel Greenbaum, a 1920s labourer who becomes preserved for decades in a vat of brine, and his encounter with his present-day great-grandson Ben Greenbaum, also portrayed by Rogen.
"We worked very hard and put as much of ourselves in this story as possible," said Rogen. "We're very proud of the end result and we can't wait for people to get to see it."
The film was directed by Brandon Trost and was based on the 2013 New Yorker series Sell Out by Simon Rich. An American Pickle also stars Sarah Snook, Maya Erskine, Jorma Taccone and Sean Whalen.
