Revenge of the Nerds emerged as a huge comedy hit back in the '80s, so in this age of reboots, it's no surprise that the property is coming back for a modern remake.
Seth MacFarlane is producing the Revenge of the Nerds reboot, Variety reports, with Keith and Kenny Lucas set to write and star in the film.
The Lucas brothers are co-writing the script with Alex Rubens, and eventually the film will arrive via MacFarlane's Fuzzy Door production company.
But considering a lot of the humour from the '80s original hasn't exactly aged well, the Lucas brothers promise to focus on "today's nerd culture and what even constitutes a geek in the 21st century," Variety reports.
So why not just call the movie something other than Revenge of the Nerds? Well, we're guessing our dollars and cents that you can figure that one out on your own.
Revenge of the Nerds was released back in 1984 and told the classic tale of the never-ending battle between jocks and nerds. This led to multiple sequels over the years of varying quality, and in 2006, 20th Century Fox attempted to remake the original movie in 2006 with Adam Brody, Dan Byrd and Kristin Cavallari. However, that reboot was ultimately canned.
This marks the latest project for the increasingly busy Lucas brothers, who were a highlight in 22 Jump Street. The pair are currently working on a comedy at Universal with Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, Variety reports. They also co-wrote and co-produced the upcoming film Judas and the Black Messiah, which stars Daniel Kaluuya and Lakeith Stanfield and is a drama about the assassination of Black Panther Party leader Fred Hampton.
As of press time, it's unclear when we'll get this new Revenge of the Nerds film.
