The horrors continue for Scream 7, which has now lost its director. Following Melissa Barrera's firing and Jenna Ortega's departure, director Christopher Landon has now announced that he has left the film.

He wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that he left the movie seven weeks ago — which, if accurate, was before Barrera was fired, and before news of Ortega's departure was public. He wrote that he "exited" the film, making it not entirely clear if he quit or was fired.

He wrote that directing Scream 7 "was a dream job that turned into a nightmare."

He never addressed his exact reason for leaving, but he did seemingly allude to Barrera's firing by writing, "I have nothing more to add to the conversation other than I hope Wes [Craven's] legacy thrives and lifts above the din of a divided world."

Barrera was fired for her comments on the Israel–Hamas war, as she expressed her support for Palestine and called for a ceasefire. Costar Ortega also left the film for reasons that were originally described as scheduling conflicts, but were later rumoured to be a salary dispute.
