'Schitt's Creek' Actor Emily Hampshire Apologizes for Dressing Up as Johnny Depp and Amber Heard for Halloween

"I am deeply sorry and ashamed for putting something that awful out in the universe"

Schitt's Creek actor Emily Hampshire has issued a public apology after dressing up as Johnny Depp and Amber Heard for Halloween.

Hampshire previously shared a photo of the duo costume on Instagram, with her own Depp costume featuring drawn-on facial hair and tattoos. Props included a wine bottle and what appears to be a turd with googly eyes — references to some of the more lurid elements of the domestic abuse trial.

That photo has since been deleted and replaced with a good ol' Notes app apology. Hampshire called the costume "one of the most thoughtless, insensitive, and ignorant things I've ever done." She wrote that she "thought it would be funny," but acknowledged that "domestic abuse is never, ever funny." She added, "These are real issues with real people and I REALLY regret my actions."

Hampshire, regrettably, left comments on the apology open. As of press time, commenters are predictably arguing about cancel culture and whether Depp or Heard was at fault.
