Dustin Diamond — the actor best known for playing Screech in Saved by the Bell — has died. He was 44 years old and passed away from stage 4 lung cancer.
According to TMZ, Diamond died this morning. The actor had been hospitalized last month and soon revealed that he had been diagnosed with cancer. His condition had apparently declined since last week, and he had been taken off of breathing machines to be placed into hospice care.
Diamond was best known for playing Screech in Saved by the Bell, including The College Years and The New Class. He also appeared in 98 Degrees' music video for "I Do (Cherish You)" and two episodes of The Wonder Years.
In more recent years, he appeared in reality shows like Celebrity Boxing 2 and Celebrity Fit Club. He also gained notoriety in tabloids for his various legal problems and a viral sex tape that was released in 2006. He later told Oprah that it was a stunt double in the sex tape.
Diamond died in the hospital with his father at his side.
