Quentin Tarantino has revealed new details regarding his upcoming film about the Manson family murders. It's titled Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and it will hit theatres on August 9, 2019.

Brad Pitt is the latest Hollywood A-lister confirmed to appear in the project, joining a cast that already includes Leonardo DiCaprio, who will play TV star and Sharon Tate's neighbour Rick Dalton. Pitt, meanwhile, will play his stunt double Cliff Booth.

Margot Robbie has been rumoured to be up for the role of Tate, though she's yet to confirm her involvement in the film.

"I've been working on this script for five years, as well as living in Los Angeles County most of my life, including in 1969, when I was seven years old," Tarantino told Deadline. "I'm very excited to tell this story of an LA and a Hollywood that don't exist any more."

The film will focus on the story of the murder of Tate at the hands of Charles Manson and his infamous followers. She and four others were murdered in Los Angeles on August 8, 1969. She was eight months pregnant at the time.

Manson died last November in prison at the age of 83.
