Pixar has announced its next feature film. Rather than another sequel, the company is offering up another new CGI property with a film called Luca.
The plot isn't exactly clear, but the film is set to follow a young boy in Italy who goes on adventures with his new best friend. "But a dark secret about his true identity seeks to threaten that bond," an official write-up reads.
"This is a deeply personal story for me, not only because it's set on the Italian Riviera where I grew up, but because at the core of this film is a celebration of friendship," director Enrico Casarosa said in a statement. "Childhood friendships often set the course of who we want to become and it is those bonds that are at the heart of our story in Luca. So in addition to the beauty and charm of the Italian seaside, our film will feature an unforgettable summer adventure that will fundamentally change Luca."
Casarosa had previously directed the Pixar short La Luna, which you can revisit below. Luca will arrive on June 18, 2021.
