Iconic Batman actor Adam West passed away on June 9 in Los Angeles, and now the city he called home will honour him with a tribute worthy of a superhero.

This evening (June 15), Los Angeles City Hall will send out the Bat-Signal over the city's skyline. A public event will be held to commemorate the lighting of the winged symbol, and L.A. mayor Eric Garcetti and police chief Charlie Beck are both slated to attend. It kicks off at 9 p.m. local time, though many from beyond the L.A. area will surely be keeping an eye on the sky via social media.

In addition to the civic honour, West will also be remembered by his Family Guy colleagues this weekend. He voiced the role of fictional Quahog mayor Adam West on the animated show for more than 100 episodes, and Fox will be paying homage to the late actor by airing the episode "The Dating Game" this Sunday (June 18). It originally aired earlier this year, on March 5.

As previously reported, West died after a short battle with leukemia. He was 88.
