Laura Prepon — of That '70s Show and Orange Is the New Black notoriety — has revealed that she stopped practicing the teachings of the Church of Scientology five years ago, after first joining the controversial organization back in the late '90s.
"I'm no longer practicing Scientology," the 41-year-old actress said in an interview with People. "I've always been very open-minded, even since I was a child. I was raised Catholic and Jewish. I've prayed in churches, meditated in temples. I've studied Chinese meridian theory. I haven't practiced Scientology in close to five years and it's no longer part of my life."
Prepon revealed that she and her husband Ben Foster "meditate daily," saying, "I'm really liking it, because it's something that helps me to hear my own voice and it's something we can do together." She also shared that the decision came after welcoming the couple's two children, aged four and 16 months.
Back in 2015, the actress appeared on the cover of Scientology-affiliated magazine Celebrity, when she spoke about how her practice helped her ease anxiety and stay relaxed under stressful circumstances in Hollywood. At the time, Prepon said she "felt that finally something was speaking my language" upon joining the cult-like organization.
