John Lydon Is Swearing on TV Again

He had some choice words for director Danny Boyle and his former Sex Pistols bandmates

One of the most infamous moments of the Sex Pistols' initial run was when they swore on live TV during a 1976 episode of the talk show Today. Now, history has repeated itself, as frontman John Lydon (a.k.a. Johnny Rotten) swore during at interview with This Morning.

Unsurprisingly, the curse word came up during a discussion about Pistol, the new Sex Pistols miniseries that Lydon has been raging against in the press. This Morning co-host Alison Hammond read Lydon a quote from Pistol director Danny Boyle: "I love Lydon for what he does and I don't want him to like it. I think that he has an absolute right. Why would you change the habit of a lifetime?"

In response, Lydon laughed and said, "Oh, you asshole." Hammond and co-host Dermot O'Leary quickly apologized to viewers for the language.

Elsewhere in the interview, Lydon said that his former bandmates (along with the companies behind the show) conspired against him. He says he was never shown a script, and that his ex-collaborators have "done this rather snide-y kind of piece of work behind my back." He denied trying to block them from using the Sex Pistols' music in the show, saying that was his publishing company, and claimed that he would have supported the show if he had been invited to collaborate in its creation.

Watch the interview below. Lydon's curse word comes shortly after the six-minute mark.

Exclaim! interviewed Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones about Pistol and his legal battle with Lydon.
