French filmmaker Leos Carax (Holy Motors) has Hollywood and the music industry alike buzzing with excitement over his latest project. Amazon has just acquired U.S. and Canadian distribution rights to his upcoming film, Annette.

As Variety points out, both Adam Driver and Rihanna have been confirmed to appear in the film. Rooney Mara was previously tapped to star, but had to pull out due to other commitments.

Riri isn't the film's only high-profile musical connection, though. Annette marks the English language debut for Carax, and as previously rumoured, he's enlisted retro art-rock duo Sparks to write both the script and original songs.

No plot or story details have been revealed, but filming is set to begin this spring in a variety of international locations, including Los Angeles.

Driver is currently starring in the final season of Girls and will return to the big screen next December in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Rihanna, meanwhile, has an upcoming appearance in Oceans 8.

UPDATE (03/16, 5:00 p.m.): Contrary to reports, Rihanna is not starring in the film.
