Francis Ford Coppola's war classic Apocalypse Now will soon be revisited, though thankfully the film's not getting an unnecessary reboot. Instead, Coppola has teamed up with American Zoetrope to turn it into a videogame.
The Apocalypse Now game isn't scheduled to arrive until 2020, though early access will be available in 2019 to coincide with the film's 40th anniversary.
To create the game, Coppola isn't working with a bunch of nobodies — the team includes producers, writers and directors who've worked on Fallout: New Vegas, Wasteland 2, Far Cry and many other games.
"Forty years ago, I set out to make a personal art picture that could hopefully influence generations of viewers for years to come," Coppola said. "Today, I'm joined by new daredevils, a team who want to make an interactive version of 'Apocalypse Now,' where you are Captain Benjamin Willard amidst the harsh backdrop of the Vietnam War."
The Apocalypse Now videogame will utilize RPG elements and cinematic cutscenes. The developers are currently seeking funds on Kickstarter.
