Like Netflix before it, Bell Media's Crave streaming service has announced that it will be launching ad-supported subscription tiers this summer.
While the prices of the new plans have yet to be revealed, it's safe to assume that they'll likewise be comparable with Netflix price points. Earlier this year, Crave got rid of its lower-cost Mobile subscription option — meaning the sole subscription option at the moment is the Crave Total plan, which costs $19.99 per month or $199 annually. (A $5.99 per month Starz add-on is also available.)
"In a crowded streaming landscape, Crave stands out from global players with an unbeatable content offering," said Karine Moses, senior vice president of content and news at Bell Media and vice-chair Quebec, Bell, in a statement. "We are thrilled to be offering the flexibility and expanded choice of ad-supported tiers to our subscribers, while aligning Crave with current industry standards."
Stewart Johnston, SVP of Bell Media sales and sports, added, "Today's announcement fulfills the growing demand from advertisers to leverage the power of Crave. We are excited to open the door to Crave's sought-after inventory for clients, to showcase their brands in a premium environment."
Crave offers the option to stream HBO, Showtime and Starz movies and TV shows in Canada. It also has a lineup of original content, and is the exclusive Canadian streaming home of all new Sony Pictures Entertainment feature films (after their theatrical and home entertainment window).
