Who Would Win a Fight Between 'Cocaine Bear' and a 'Meth Gator'?

This could be a box office brawl for the ages

The advent of Cocaine Bear — one of Exclaim!'s Most Anticipated Films of 2023 — has led us to believe the animal disaster film genre will only become more intoxicating from here on out, and it's a prediction that looks even more accurate with news of a rather ripped reptile coming to do box office battle with ursus cocaini.

Not to be upstaged by the blow-loving black bear at the centre of Elizabeth Banks's latest flick, the Asylum — the film company known best for bringing us the Sharknado franchise — has appeared to announce a forthcoming movie titled Attack of the Meth Gator.

You'd be forgiven if you thought the reveal of the Meth Gator was a joke, with the studio writing, "Hold our bear… I mean, beer" in revealing the titular terror on Twitter late last week (February 24). However, they seem to be dead serious about it "coming for your life this summer."

Pressed for further confirmation, the Asylum shared, "This is real! We're pumping the meth into Floridas fresh water reserves as we speak," later answering, "It's been in the pipeline for quite a while actually. A lot of people assuming it's a mockbuster, but this one is an #AsylumOriginal."

While Cocaine Bear is loosely inspired by a 1985 drug smuggling operation which ultimately ended with a black bear found dead with 75 pounds of cocaine in its stomach, the possible story of Attack of the Meth Gator is one for a modern world.

Following a 2019 methamphetamine possession arrest, police in Lorretto, TN, advised residents to not flush their drugs down the toilet, fearing they would be eaten by alligators in the Tennessee River. "[Water/sewer management] had enough methed up animals the past few weeks without our help," authorities wrote at the time. "If you need to dispose of your drugs just give us a call and we will make sure they are disposed of in the proper way."

While we await the meth gator's exit from the studio swamp, read Exclaim!'s review of Cocaine Bear.
