There are arguably too many Chrises in showbiz, but only one is consistently trying to put the Christ in Chris. Even still, Chris Pratt's devotion to the big guy upstairs hasn't protected him from online hate, with Twitter dubbing him "the worst Chris" a few times over. This hasn't phased him though, as he believes his haters make him more like Jesus Christ.
Speaking with Page Six at a New York screening of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, he was asked if he felt his "worst Chris" designation had anything to do with his faith. "I sure do but that's nothing new, that's nothing new, you know?" he said.
Continuing by quoting the Bible, he said, "If I was of this world, they would love me just like that but as it is, I've chosen out of this world. That's John 15:18 through 20," before referencing Jesus himself: "That's the way it is, nothing new, 2,000 years ago they hated him, too." Sounds like a radio Christian rock lyric!
If any hate geared towards Pratt is actually because he's a Christian, it's more likely that people aren't thrilled about his ties to a homophobic church. While he denied attending known anti-LGBTQ+ institution Hillsong Church, he does belong to Zoe Church, which models itself after the former.
Regardless of the internet's disdain for him, it hasn't stopped The Super Mario Bros. Movie from being a smash hit. It's-a me, internet inconsistency!
