Canada's longest-running queer film festival, Fairy Tales Queer Film Festival, returns in 2023 to Calgary's Globe Cinema from June 9 to 18.
Presented by the Calgary Queer Arts Society, the 10-day festival will screen a wide range of nearly 40 films, including documentaries, features, short films and animations, plus specially curated evenings, interactive moments and augmented reality. All of the films will have a queer perspective, and some might never be seen elsewhere.
The festival kicks off with John Cameron Mitchell's cult classic 2001 film Hedwig and the Angry Inch, while other highlights include a specially curated youth and family shorts day, "Queer Portraits," a collection of documentary shorts exploring the complexities of queer identity, and an adults-only subversive shorts late-night screening event.
Tickets are on sale now via Showpass, and run from $9.99 plus fees for a single ticket to $110 plus fees for a full festival pass. Check out the full 2023 schedule here.
