Rutger Hauer — the actor best known for playing Roy Batty in Ridley Scott's original Blade Runner — has passed away. He died on Friday (July 19) at the age of 75 following a brief illness, his agent confirmed today.

Hauer's Batty delivered an iconic speech at the end of Blade Runner, a speech that Hauer helped write.

"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe," he told Harrison Ford's character. "Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die."

In addition to Blade Runner, Hauer appeared in Dracula 3D and the 2004 mini series Salem Lot. He also appeared in Sin CityBatman Begins and True Blood, among others.

He was born in the Netherlands in 1944. His funeral was held on Wednesday (July 24).
