Moonlight director Barry Jenkins has announced his ambitious new project — a 10-episode limited series called The Underground Railroad.

The series will arrive on Amazon Prime Video on May 14, and it's based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Colson Whitehead. Right now, you can watch the first trailer down below.

The Underground Railroad stars Thuso Mbedu, Chase W. Dillon and Joel Edgerton. It also features Aaron Pierre, William Jackson Harper, Sheila Atim, Amber Gray, Peter De Jersey, Chukwudi Iwuji, Damon Herriman, Lily Rabe, Irone Singleton, Mychal-Bella Bowman, Marcus "MJ" Gladney, Jr., Will Poulter and Peter Mullan.

The series will tell the story of Cora Randall (Mbedu), who is on a search for freedom from the U.S. South. After escaping a Georgia plantation, Cora makes her way to the rumoured Underground Railroad, all the while being pursued by a bounty hunter (Edgerton) trying to track her down.

Jenkins serves as showrunner for the series and directs all 10 episodes.
