For several years now, metalcore band As I Lay Dying have been controversial — mainly due to vocalist Tim Lambesis's penchant for plotting his estranged wife's murder, setting women on fire and the like. The mass exodus of his band members has been at the centre of things lately, though, with longtime rhythm guitarist Phil Sgrosso following suit of bassist Ryan Neff, lead guitarist Ken Susi, drummer Nick Pierce and tour manager Alex Kendrick's recent exits from the unit last week.

Lambesis himself has finally addressed the situation, taking to Instagram to issue a statement on the matter. "I needed some time to process all that has happened recently with AILD," he wrote, admitting that an "unhealthy environment" that made leaving for As I Lay Dying's since-cancelled European tour "unrealistic" with the previous lineup.

"It saddens me to think about the behaviours, communication, and patterns of interaction that led up to the tour cancellation," the vocalist went on. "Phil and I no longer saw eye to personally, creatively, or financially. Discussions during this time prompted his decision to depart first, with each of the touring members deciding to leave shortly after, as they were not interested in going on without him. Unfortunately, that wasn't the order in which everything was made public, as some statements were rushed out during a chaotic time in response to rumours."

Lambesis added that he "fully supports" each member's decision to leave and believes "at this time it is best for everyone," but made it clear that his "door will always remain open to discussing anything directly."

"Now, regarding what's next: AILD was founded on persistence and determination. For anyone who is familiar with the foundational years from 2000–2004, you know that more than 20 people (whom I'm incredibly grateful for) have come and gone to help bring to life this vision I've had in my head since I was 19 years old," the musician concluded. "I look forward to building a new team, and creating an atmosphere that is supportive, positive, and fosters a creative environment."

Lambesis likewise confirmed that As I Lay Dying's forthcoming album, Through Storms Ahead, will still be released on November 15. See the full statement below.
