Anne Hathaway to Replace Amy Schumer in Barbie Movie

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Jul 26, 2017

Amy Schumer backed out of the live-action Barbie movie earlier this year, and it looks like Anne Hathaway could be tiptoeing up to fill the main character's plastic stiletto shoes.

The Oscar-winning actress is reportedly in talks to take on the iconic toy-inspired role, which will portray Mattel's most famous female as a doll who doesn't quite fit in with her peers in Barbieland and opts to go on an adventure in the real world instead.

As The Hollywood Reporter notes, Hathaway is vying for Australian director Alethea Jones to lead the project.

Hathaway also recently starred in Colossal, and is set to return to the screen in Ocean's 8 and Nasty Women later this year.

Schumer stepped down from the Barbie role back in March, citing "scheduling conflicts." Sony is insistent on sticking to the film's release date of June 29, 2018, in order to maintain scheduled merchandising commitments with Mattel.
