'Adventure Time' Is Coming to an End

Over the weekend, The Simpsons returned for its 28th season. With it came the arrival of a new couch gag from Adventure Time creator Pendleton Ward. It's a good thing these two worlds finally crossed over, because Adventure Time is coming to an end.

The long-running Cartoon Network hit is set to shut down after its ninth season, which is currently in production. There will be half-hour episodes and special goodies that come out until 2018, but then it's done.

In a statement [via Deadline], Ward had plenty of fond memories from his time working on the show.

"Adventure Time was a passion project for the people on the crew who poured their heart into the art and stories," he said. "We tried to put into every episode something genuine and telling from our lives, and make a show that was personal to us, and that had jokes too! I'm really happy that it connected with an audience for so long. It's a special thing, I think."
