In comedy circles, the late Del Close is something of a religious leader. His teachings were the basis for modern improv comedy, and he's revered by all. Following a documentary about the performer's legacy last year, Del Close will next be played by Mike Myers in an upcoming biopic.
The film is simply called Del, and is set to be directed by Betty Thomas (Private Parts, 28 Days). The film will follow Del Close's early rise. Eventually, Close found himself mentoring the likes of John Belushi, Chris Farley, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Tina Fey and Myers himself.
In a statement, producer Paul Hanson said, "Mike Myers is a comedy genius and the perfect actor to inhabit this complicated, funny, poignant character," said Hanson. "A pioneer of his craft, Close has passed his knowledge of humor and improv to the group of comedians that everyone knows today and this hilarious script examines that intimate relationship with his students that has made them so successful."
