Kevin Smith suffered a "massive" heart attack last night (February 25) in the midst of filming a pair of standup special sets.

The comedian and director revealed the news via Twitter early this morning, sharing a selfie from his hospital bed. Smith's doctor told him that he had "100% blockage" of his left anterior descending artery (frequently referred to as the "widow maker").

The attack happened after Smith had performed the first of two sets at the Alex Theatre in Glendale, CA, which were to be recorded for an upcoming special dubbed Kevin Smith Live! The first show took place at 6 p.m. local time, while the 9 p.m. taping was cancelled.

According to Smith, "If I hadn't canceled show 2 to go to the hospital, I would've died tonight."
