Yesan Damen

Chronos/Kairos

BY Michael EdwardsPublished Jan 28, 2008

Based on the band and album name, it’s pretty tough to figure out just what Yesan Damen are all about. It turns out they are a Seattle band whose low key indie pop songs are quite pleasant but not nearly as enigmatic as one might initially think. Chronos/Kairos is their second album and finds the band feeling much more playful than on their somewhat sombre debut. Songwriter Daniel Kwak has assembled a diverse group of friends to help add some more variety to the primarily jangle-y songs. And for the most part, he succeeds, although the songs do begin to blend together by the end, and it looks like he needs to find a few new voices for album number three. It isn’t an unpleasant listen by any means, but it will be completely forgotten by year’s end. Probably even sooner.
