Yeah Yeah Yeahs Announce New Music, Sign to Secretly Canadian

"New music! New Era! And New Home with Secretly Canadian! Much to celebrate!"

Sound the alarm, get yourself a blunt bowl-cut mullet and otherwise prepare yourself — the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are back, baby.

Well, almost. Back in March, the NYC indie icons announced some big-ticket shows and teased some fresh tunes, their first since going radio-silent after 2013's Mosquito (which is better than you remember it being, so take this as an opportunity to revisit).

But today, those hints and whispers get a little more serious — the band has announced that they've signed to Secretly Canadian (with new music expected to arrive in the fall) and will be playing a series of shows in major cities around the world, including a performance at Osheaga. No word on a non-festival Canadian show as of yet, but those in Toronto should maybe keep their eyes peeled.

Karen O and co. will be welcoming the Linda Lindas as openers at their upcoming Queens, NY, show, while Japanese Breakfast will be opening for the trio at their October 6 show at the Hollywood Bowl. Japanese Breakfast's Michelle Zauner has spoken regularly about how much she was inspired by Karen O, so that's pretty cool!

This is obviously big news for anyone who had their entire brain demolished and rebuilt by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' ferocious glitter-bomb of a catalogue, and it gets even more titillating when you watch the brief tour announcement video, which seems to feature a tiny taste of new music. The snippet sounds glammy and synth-saturated, which is never a bad thing when it comes to the YYYs.

Check out a tweet from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs announcing the news and the video and tour dates below.
