As the pandemic rages on in Canada, more summer music festivals are cancelling their 2021 events. This now includes the TD Winnipeg International Jazz Festival.
While the event had been scheduled for June, Jazz Winnipeg made the announcement of the festival's cancellation today, casting some serious doubts on whether other jazz fests in Canada will actually take place this summer.
Despite the bad news, Jazz Winnipeg stated it intends to offer other programming in continuation of its 2020 summer and fall offerings, including capacity-controlled, physically-distanced outdoor events and online concerts.
"We have taken this time to take a strategic look at the organization and look forward to partnering with organizations and musicians in our community to offer a modified slate of safe and accessible summer and fall programming for 2021," said Jazz Winnipeg acting executive director Angela Heck in a statement.
"Our priority continues to be the safety and health of our staff, performers, crew members, audience, and the general public, as well as the health and vitality of Winnipeg's music community."
