William Elliott Whitmore Announces 'Radium Death,' Shares New Track

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Feb 24, 2015

Iowa roots-blues rabble-rouser William Elliott Whitmore apparently doused his new LP with more distorted sounds and will offer up the in-the-red results as Radium Death. The solo artist's next set is due March 31 through Anti-.

The record, Whitmore's first since 2011's Field Songs, reportedly amps up his folk-infused approach, replacing the generally sparse banjo and acoustic guitar-assisted sounds of his back catalogue with more overdriven textures and full-band backing.

A press release explains that Whitmore would take a two-hour drive from his Iowa farm to Iowa City's Flat Black Studios to work on the material with cousin and producer Luke Tweedy. The tracks were often built in the studio, with various guest musicians sitting in on the sessions.

"I purposefully went into it wanting to make a little bit of a departure, sonically, using an electric guitar a little bit more and adding more instrumentation, more full-band type stuff," Whitmore explained in a statement.

A distortion-dusted boot stomper called "Healing to Do" is the first preview from Radium Death. You can let the fuzz-saturated first single soothe your soul by giving it a stream down below.

Whitmore has also announced a U.S. tour. You can see all the dates below the tracklist.
