Putting an end to much anticipation, Wilderness of Manitoba will unleash their fourth studio album Between Colours next week, but you can listen to it before it hits shelves right now at Exclaim.ca.
The record was recorded with producer Joe Dunphy at Revolution Recording in the band's hometown of Toronto and marks a growth in sound. "When a band isn't changing, it's not growing," said guitarist, keyboardist and vocalist Will Whitwham in a statement.
The title refers to the group's ever-evolving career; each album has its own "colour" and this one follows Island Echoes, but is one in a long line of music to come.
Shared lead vocals from Whitwham and Amanda Balsys anchor each song on the album, which also features guests like the Rheostatics' Michael Phillip Wojewoda on theremin and Alex Lifeson of Rush contributing a coveted guitar solo.
The band's folksy roots shine through on cuts like "Leave Someone" and "Through Blue Light," while other songs like "Fade from My Light" more brazenly embrace a full-on indie rock vibe. A press release describes the new record as a collection of "one-listen pop hooks and adventurous sonic exploration," which you can hear for yourself below.
Between Colours arrives on September 16 via Pheromone Recordings, and you can pre-order a copy here. Scroll past the band's upcoming Canadian tour dates to give it an advanced listen now.
