Wild Pink Announce New Album 'ILYSM,' Share Title Track

The follow-up to 2021's 'A Billion Little Lights' was inspired by frontman John Ross's cancer diagnosis

Wild Pink have announced their fourth full-length ILYSM, arriving October 14 on Royal Mountain Records. The record was inspired by bandleader John Ross's cancer diagnosis, after which Ross "started writing songs that tried to make sense of the whole experience."

Ross said in a statement accompanying the record, "Even though I'd already started working on the record, everything took on new meaning after my diagnosis." He went on to write about "the love and support I felt from the people in my life — particularly my wife, which is where the title came from."

The follow-up to 2021's A Billion Little Lights features contributions from Julien Baker, J Mascis, Ryley Walker, Yasmin Williams and Samantha Crain. Alongside the announcement, they've also shared the enormous, shout-along title track, which comes attached to a video created by artist John Smith using a Dall-E 2 AI system.

"This song, like a few others on this record, takes place where I live and the field next to it," Ross wrote about the track. "A full moon will light up all the rooms here in a way I've never really seen and I feel like this song wrote itself a little bit. This album is about love in its many forms and this song in particular is a metaphor for love and obsession."

Wild Pink will also be heading out on tour in support of the album, hitting Toronto and Montreal this October. Check out the video for "ILYSM," plus the record's tracklist and the band's upcoming tour dates below.
