White Stripes Play to 70-Year-Old Nation Army

The White Stripes played to an unlikely audience yesterday: 20-odd retired pensioners in red tunics and black tricorn hats at London's Royal Chelsea Hospital for military veterans. All profits from the show will be donated to the Chelsea Pensioners' Appeal for a new infirmary at the hospital. When asked for a review of the show, retiree Paddy Fox said, "Fantastic! Normally we only get the odd carol service in here." Of course, the band chose not to subject the aged crowd to the searing volume of Icky Thump tracks, and went acoustic for the full gig.
