Psychedelic Wunderbaum

Norwegians aren’t supposed to be this crazy sounding. Then again, living in total darkness half the year would screw with anyone’s mind. Reminiscent of early Faust, this Scandinavian duo splices bizarre snippets (of things too diverse to list) to create grating, yet always interesting rhythmic loops — making the Butthole Surfers sound like the Venga Boys in the process. Nonetheless, while “Extremist Cow” and “Track 10” are explorations in dementia, “Young Foot Flush” and “The Intrepid Traveler” are almost danceable (almost). The repeated references to Aleister Crowley are a little puzzling, though. One can presume that the Vikings heard similar music in their heads while they raped and pillaged.
