We Were Lovers

"Glory Days"

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Mar 8, 2016

Saskatoon synth-popsters We Were Lovers are set to head south next week for SXSW, but before arriving in Austin, they've shared a new single called "Glory Days" — and Exclaim! has got the exclusive premiere.

The band have downsized since starting out as a six-piece in 2008, but remaining members Ash Lamothe and Elsa Gebremichael have taken the project in a fierce, more dance-driven direction since then. Previously partners both on and off the stage, the irony of the band name was not lost on the pair — rather it "drove them to up the ante of musicianship and create something worthy of the beauty of irony," releasing their first LP together with 2013's Pyramids.

No longer romantically linked, but as creatively collaborative as ever, the duo are set to unleash their latest material with "Glory Days." The single arrives as the first taste of an album due out later this year, and captures the ever-changing nature of life, love and music. It's a swirl of shiny guitar lines, shimmery synths and hypnotic vocals and you can get lost in it right now.
