The Watchmen

Nobody’s Watching is a meta-sitcom about a couple of TV-addicted dudes disappointed with contemporary comedies. Derrick and Will are hired to craft a quality sitcom while the network films a making-of reality show during which they must live on a sitcom set complete with live studio audience. It sounds confusing, which was why the multi-layered pilot wasn’t picked up, but this summer it became a phenomenon after leaking onto YouTube. Several hundred thousand views later, NBC picked it up but has yet to give any indication they’ll air it. Undeterred, the creators are maintaining online momentum via nobodyswatching.tv, gathering their various, and invariably hilarious, in-character webisodes riffing on internet memes (Coke-and-Mentos, that OK Go video) and ripping on generic sitcoms, including an awesome 30-minute video of them dazedly dying of boredom while watching the premier of this season’s worst sitcom ’Til Death. NBC may never nut up, but in the meantime plenty of bodies are watching the website.
