East Coast psych rockers Walrus gave us Goodbye Something last summer, and they're set to follow up the EP with a new record later this year. Before all the details of the impending release are revealed, though, Exclaim! is giving you a preview of what's to come with the premiere of a new single called "Regular Face."
The track is a jangly jaunt that blends just the right balance of trippy riffs, peppy percussion and swirling psychedelic vocals. The band's Justin Murphy explained the meaning behind the tune in a statement to Exclaim! It reads:
It's more or less about consistency in your life in a way, like my life was changing a little bit when I wrote this song, was doing new things and my personal environment was taking a new shape, but in the lyrics "doesn't matter to me, if it all becomes mine, same regular face, same place, same time" it sort of symbolizes no matter the changes your experiencing at any time in your life, when you look at yourself in the mirror its still you, and its always still going to be you. When we recorded this song we did this cool thing where we recorded the drums on a bed track to tape and Jordan would physically slow down the tape, and when everyone else recorded their parts we had to anticipate and play live along to the speed ups and slow downs throughout the song, and it turned out real nice.
Let the good vibes roll by giving it a listen down below.
The Halifax band will be heading back out on the road this spring, and you can see all of their upcoming shows listed below, as well.
