When we reviewed Wake Owl's performance at Canadian Music Week last year, we noted that the group were green, but promising. The Vancouver-based indie folk act are now looking to fulfil that promise with their debut EP, Wild Country, due out January 29 through Rezolute Music.
Wake Owl is led by Colyn Cameron, a Vancouver songwriter who originally hails from Southern California and currently splits his time between Canada and Portland, OR. A press release describes the material on Wake Owl's debut collection like this: "Wild Country paints a lush, broad musical landscape that's at once personal and universal, intimate yet accessible." And as you can hear from the stream below, that's a pretty spot-on description.
The EP includes everything from pedal steel-assisted folk to more climactic and catchy material. There are five songs, plus an additional demo of the single "Gold." Listen to the whole thing below.
