Has Grey's Anatomy ever introduced you to truly great music? The medical drama, which has featured tracks by KT Tunstall, Snow Patrol and the Fray, has helped launch a number of artists and is known to boost sales, just as other hit shows with prominent soundtracks do. Wake Owl are the latest band to receive the spotlight. The Vancouver, BC group's first single, "Gold," is an emotional crescendo of acoustic guitars, harmonies and strings; it's a track tailor-made to accompany a dramatic scene. The five other songs on their debut EP, Wild Country, follow suit. Opening number "Wild Country" features a chorus bursting with vocals by leader Colyn Cameron and his band-mates that begs you to sing-along, while the build-up of "Grow" mirrors the same effect. These songs are all beautifully constructed pieces of folk-pop, but they fall short of adding anything new or exciting to the oversaturated field of soundtrack-worthy hit makers. It'll take more than just a heart-warming harmony to win people over in the long run.
