Wake Island have been making music in home studios in Montreal, New York and Beirut, and now we're starting to see the fruits of those sessions. Exclaim! has the premiere of a video for the new track "Carácter."
The song is a clinky-clanky, abstract offering that blends restrained piano balladry with burbling electronic soundscapes, back masking and snippets of processed, Eastern-inspired singing. The track is 10 minutes long, and it turns into a beat-driven banger in its middle passage. In the accompanying video, we see footage of the band performing in a Montreal home studio amidst colour-tinting and CGI freakiness.
There will be a string of homemade videos from Wake Island leading up to a new album in April 2016. Until then, check out the premiere of "Carácter" below, where you'll find a few fast-approaching tour dates.
Tour dates:
10/22 Toronto, ON - Lee's Palace *
10/24 Montreal, QC - Le National *
11/21 Montreal, QC - Casa Del Popolo
* with Mashrou' Leila
