Canadian headbangers in search of heavy metal glory are once again gearing up to take part in the annual Wacken Metal Battle Canada contest. Now in its fourth year, the competition will see independent metal bands from across the country perform for a chance to bring their talents to the stage at the legendary Wacken Open Air fest in Germany.
This year's lineup of battles will see more than 100 bands vie for metal supremacy in Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Regina, London, Hamilton, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal. Canada has produced two Metal Battle world champions within the past three years, beating out over 30 other countries from around the world.
A press release states that each Canadian city will hold their qualifying rounds and city finals from January to May, with the top band moving forward to the national finals in Toronto on June 11 at the Opera House. From there, only one act will be selected to perform at the 27th edition of Wacken Open Air, taking place from August 4 to 6.
