Vipers

Outta The Nest

BY Chris RolfePublished Jun 1, 2000

This debut album originally came out in '85, subsequently setting the standard for the psych-garage revival of that era. Reissued on CD for the first time, this still-gritty sounding disc also contains numerous bonus tracks, videos and extensive liner notes, making it one cool-ass package. Fans of '60s garage, who have yet to be introduced to the Vipers, may be sceptical, but there is no glossy '80s production here - this band really was the Nuggets/Pebbles sound, with incredibly infectious tunes to boot. The one oddball (though still an outstanding track) is the trippy, Silver Apples-esque "Medication," which Spiritualized's Jason Pierce perhaps based his entire career on.
