The Vines guitarist/vocalist Craig Nicholls was arrested over the weekend after allegedly assaulting his mother and injuring a police officer at his parents' home in Sydney, Australia.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald [via Spin], the musician, who suffers from Asperger syndrome, punched his mother twice in the head during the incident on Saturday (October 13). Nicholls then apparently attempted to escape when authorities were brought to the scene. Police reportedly used pepper spray to subdue Nicholls after he resisted arrest.

"He tried to evade police and [a] violent struggle ensued," Hurstville police inspector Robert Duncan told the newspaper. "A police officer suffered grazes, cuts and bruises to both elbows and knees and was treated at St George Hospital."

The altercation has left the Aussie rocker facing five criminal charges, including two counts of domestic assault, stalking or intimidation, resisting arrest and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Additionally, his parents have filed for a restraining order against their son. Nicholls is expected to appear before a judge at Sutherland Local Court tomorrow (October 17).

The Vines' last LP, Future Primitive, was released in 2011.
