Hot Damn

BY Joshua OstroffPublished Feb 21, 2009

Just when you thought you were out of GTA IV, they keep pulling you back in. But Rockstar's new Xbox-only "episode" The Lost and Damned ain't no drive-by add-on. Unlike recent expansions for Fable 2 and Fallout 3, which were glorified side-quests, this 8-plus-hour download provides a real reason to move back to Liberty City.

Lost offers a completely new story that plops peripheral character Johnny Klebitz into the spotlight and runs parallel to the original's Niko Bellic epic. As vice president of small-time motorcycle gang the Lost, Klebitz is dealing with the post-rehab return of psychotic president Billy and an ongoing war against the Angels of Death.

Though download-only, the smart writing and cinematic production values are as impressive as ever, despite being smaller in scope and more limited in freedom. In GTA games the main character is always the metropolis itself and as the saying goes, there are eight million stories in the naked city. Or at least two more episodes.
