Poker Flat Vol. 5 Bets n' Bluffs

BY Stephanie KalePublished Feb 26, 2007

Poker Flat label head Steve Bug has put together a fifth volume highlighting the best tracks of the current techno season, including selections that have been previously released on full-length Poker Flat releases, some upcoming twelve-inch releases, as well as songs a few artists have composed exclusively for this album. The comp kicks off with Argy’s "Love Dose” remixed by Luciano, who flavours this playful, bouncy dance floor hit with his signature ultra-sultry Spanish vocals. John Tejada’s psychedelic tech house track "Asanebo” follows and next is a Trentemøller dub-style remix of his own "Always Something Better” that’s full of delayed echoes and reverb effects, yet interestingly overtop beats that mingle, albeit in a more tech-y way, with the crescendos and diminuendos characteristic of trance. Märtini Bros.’s "Spoonful of Lovin’” is a journey of soft, dreamy, undulating synths with a clean house beat, while Guido Schneider and Florian Schirmacher’s "Transmission” is a polyrhythmic, percussive exploration that combines live drums with drum machines. Included in this package is a bonus mix CD by Poker Flat artist Martin Landsky, a piece of audio voyeurism into a bangin’ Poker Flat club night. This compilation is a perfect introduction to the Poker Flat label or an assurance to the regular listener that Poker Flat maintains its cutting edge status in dance music production.
