OM: Miami 2007

BY Sarah FergusonPublished Mar 23, 2007

The beautifully selected music on OM: Miami 2007 conveys a coastal vibe. You can almost hear this house music jiving with a late night beach party, bonfires blazing. The tracks, a mix of vocal and straight instrumentals, are solidly produced individual songs but seamlessly mixed. If you’ve followed OM’s history this record showcases the talent that has come to be expected from the label: artists with unique sounds that are cutting edge but with commercial appeal (à la Mark Farina). The tracks speak about the deep dynamics of life over powerful beats, a mix of low electronic sparkles and glimmers of the acid sound over hints of hip-hop, jazz and horns, with a glare of sensitivity and attitude. If this record is a hint of what passed at the recent Miami Winter Music Conference, and with the movement of tones and notes on this CD translating to some great dancing, you’ll wish you had been there.
