Fabriclive 43: Switch & Sinden Present Get Familiar Mixed By Sinden

BY Ashley HampsonPublished Jan 28, 2009

The title of the latest Fabriclive instalment, taken from the bimonthly club night of the same name, should be an indication of what to expect. Mixed entirely by DJ Graeme Sinden (with a title shout out to duo Switch and Sinden's residency at Fabric), he flawlessly blends an eclectic mix of everything going on in club land at the moment, along with his exploration of world music meets dance. In keeping with his live sets, Sinden runs through a gamut of styles so skilfully executed you wonder when he jumped from Baltimore club to electro. Mujava's "Township Funk," remixed by Sinden, pulls bouncy synths over a staggered beat to highlight the African origins then rolls into a stellar remix of "Balle! Shava!" from Bhangra duo Tigerstyle. MixHell's electro-house blend on "Highly Explicit (Brodinski Remix)" steps up the beat and segues perfectly into the percussive realm of Kuduro, provided by Lisbon stars Buraka Som Sistema. Fabriclive 43 nears its end with the gritty and bass-heavy, delving into dub-step and grime from across the UK. The Count and Sinden remix of "Drop the Pressure" by Project Bassline (on Hervé's Cheap Thrills label) twists explosive percussion with dark synths as the album slowly shifts into house. Sinden plays to the crowd, which is evident given the huge range of genres he runs through on the disc, managing to expose world music while still spinning his signature style.
