Having released their latest album Modified in 2020, Vancouver's Hip Hop Mecanix are celebrating their favourite holiday today with a new video for the album's "The Doobie Song 420 Anthem."

Juice, Shortop, DJ K Rec and DJ Sorce get political on the track — which is unsurprisingly about cannabis legalization in Canada. It's dedicated to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and invites listeners to "consider what legalization means and the benefits" overtop a sample of Cowboy Junkies' "Sweet Jane." (Get it?)

"The Doobie Song 420 Anthem" was recorded by Kent Stephany at Sound City in Vancouver with pre-production done at Gastown Sound. According to press materials, it was "written prior to the partial and restrictive legalization steps that Canada has taken so far," further noting that "there is still much work to do"; it's been nearly five years since cannabis legalization in Canada, but many Canadians' past convictions for minor possession have yet to be pardoned.

Today, the song's Vancouver-shot visuals arrive courtesy of Simone Bailly and Benn Mcguire. The video sees the group performing alongside shots of their city's 420 protest, as Juice and Shortop don Zig-Zag, Cheech and Chong, and Bob Marley branded shirts and light up among their fellow enthusiasts.
